The process of creating colour by blocking white light using pigments or dyes is known as subtractive process. In the process, as you add colours, the end product becomes darker and darker. These processes are dependent upon the ambient light because this is the light that is blocked for the process to occur. Printers using this technique usually use the colours Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black inks.

Hello Dear.

The process of creating color by blocking white light using pigment of dyes is called "Subtractive color mixing".
But At first you have to know that There are two main types of color mixing :→
1) Additive color mixing → The process in which a New color is created by adding two different set of wavelength. It means when a light of different wavelength are mixed or combined. Ex- Color TV , Color Monitor etc.
2) Subtractive color mixing → Subtractive color mixing is the process in which creating a new color by removal of wavelength from a light, with a broad spectrum wavelength.
I mean subtractive color mixing occurs when we mix paints , dye or pigment.
Reason / Explanation of Subtractive color Mixing ⇒
When you do the experiment , As you add color, The color mix wavelength are deleted because each pigment will absorb some wavelength, The product will become dark, The primaries colors are Cyan , Magenta & yellow.
In printing machines these technology are used.

Hope it Helps.
Have a nice day. :-)
