Air is a gas, but not all gases are air. Air is a subset of gases.Gas is loosely definedas anything in the vapor phase, which is usually accomplishedby increasing it’s temperature to above it’s boiling point, by obtaining a natural gas that has a boilingpoint well below STP, or decreasing the vapor pressure abovea liquid to lower the boiling point and create a gas.Examples of gases other than air include nitrogen, oxygen (no, air is not oxygen, but let’s save that for another question), argon, helium, HCl (g),phosgene, and chlorine. For bonus knowledge, know that a substance does not have to remain in the gaseous state. Nitrogen can be cooled to a very cold temperature to condense it to liquid nitrogen, which is used as a cooling medium. It can also be pressurized to achieve this effect. Gaseous carbon dioxide can be solidified by cooling or pressurizing. Phosgene is a gas at STP but turns into a liquid if you cool it in ice or dry ice, I believe
