1. Concentrated Hydrochloric acid can be oxidized with manganese(IV)oxide to liberate chlorine gas. This process is used in large scale manufacture of chlorine - which is then packed in cylinders.

2. Ferric ions in solution can be reduced to ferrous ions by using hydrogen sulphide.
