On adding water the (H+) ions of the acid and (OH-) ions of water react to form water molecules and the concentration of hydronium ions decreases.
In other words:
Previously
(H+) + H2O →(H3O+)
After dilution
(H+) + (OH-) →H2O

the first thing to remember the hydronium ion determines that it is an acid
the second thing more H3O+ ions more is the strength of the acid and vice versa
