United Nations (UN) :

The United Nations is the largest international organization founded on 24th October, 1945 AD. It was founded as a successor to the League of Nations in the hope that it would mediate in the conflicts between states and thereby keep the world away from war. The organization is financed by assessed and voluntary contributions from its member states. So far, 193 countries have got the membership of the UN. The main objectives of the establishment of the UN were :

▶ To maintain peace and security in the world.

▶ To achieve international co-operation in solving various problems.

▶ To work for economic development, social progress and human right issues.

▶ To develop friendly relations among all the nations based on the principles of equal rights and respect for self decision.

The world has witnessed two World Wars causing appalling destruction not only to mankind but also to nature. It endangered world peace and tranquility. The destruction was so terrible that ‘ League Of Nations’ was formed after the World War I with the intention of solving the differences of opinions between Nations.

The failure of League of Nations to prevent ‘ World War II ’ compelled the nations of the world to come together once again to find ways of preventing was in future. With all efforts to establish international peace, and development, to promote co - operation in solving International problems, the United Nations was formed in the year 1945 after the second World War.

The name ‘ United Nations’ was first coined by Franklin D. Roosevelt, the then President of United States.

The United Nations (UN) was officially established on October 24, in the year 1945. The rules governing the UN are called ‘ Charter of the United Nations’.
