Many bacteria and protozoan simply split into two halves during cell division. This type of fission is called binary fission.

In binary fission, the nucleus first elongated and then divides to form new organism. It is followed by the cleavage of cytoplasm between the two daughter nuclei to form two daughter individuals.

In organism like Amoeba the splitting of two cells during cell division can take place in any plane.
