The court of 1877 called the "Proclamation Durbar", for which organization was organized by Thomas Henry Thornton, on 1 January 1877, Queen Victoria was named by the British to declare her as the Queen of India. The court of 1877 was an official event, and was not a popular occasion in 1932 and 1911 with the collective involvement of the later courts. This was the end of the transfer of most of India's control from the British East India Company to the Crown.
Inside the Victoria Memorial in Calcutta, there is a inscription taken from Queen Victoria's message to the people of India in 1877 court:
We rely on the present opportunity
Can be united in close bonds
Affection of ourselves and our subjects;
From the highest to the most humble,
All can feel that under our rule

And justice is safe for them; And
To add, to promote their happiness
Their prosperity, and their advance
Welfare, are the present objectives for ever
Objects of our empire

It was in this shining court that Ganesh Vasudev Joshi, wearing "Homespun spotsless white khadi", was the rose of the grass root political organization, Gulab, to read a quote from Poona Prajnabak Sabha, which organization presided over the rise of the Indian National Congress. Had to Joshi's quote demanded a very modest language:
His Excellency provides for providing India as the same British political and social status as is enjoyed by his British subjects.
With this demand, it can be said that the campaign for an independent India was formally launched, which was the beginning of a great change for India.
Later the court would be considered controversial because it had directed money from the Great Famine of 1876-78.
