A recognition of the importance of psychosocial factors in disability and rehabilitation dates back, at least, to the forming of Division 22 (Rehabilitation Psychology) in 1958, which was originally named Psychological Aspects of Disability and had its origins in an American Psychological Association special interest. Rehabilitation Psychology initiated a focus on issues of children and adolescents with disabilities and chronic conditions, recognizing the need for special health and social care for these individuals.

Hope this helps you :)
