Alveoli are small pouches or sac like structure. They are surrounded by blood capillaries.
More than million of alveoli are present in the lungs.
The presence of millions of alveoli in the lungs provide a very large surface area for exchange of gases.
When we breathe in, the alveoli expand and maximise the exchange of gases
