The alveolar walls have a huge amount of the blood vessels around it and the alveoli also have a large surface area which allows the maximum gaseous exchange to take place through it. Both the lungs contain a huge number which is approximately 300-450 millions of alveoli present in it.

Thus, huge amount of gaseous exchange takes place through it and this mechanism creates the maximum amount of transfer through it.
