Ohh, yes water supply is an important source of chemical hazard.Which man has been trying to resolve for a decade.
BUT HOW CAN WATER BE A CHEMICAL HAZARD?
Water has a very high disssolution capacity,it can dissolve most any form of chemicals, Hence disposing of all the industrial wastes into rivers lakes and other water bodies have been practiced, without knowing its harmful effects.
#In many village areas women wash their cloths on the bank of river using the river water and disposing the soapy water back to river.
# Citizen have thier role too, in making water bodies a chemical hazards. Many people dump their garbage and waste material into the water bodies.
# And if water is transported through steel pipes, the water gets mixed with these chemical ions present in the pipe , increasing the concentration of toxicity.
BUT HOW DOES THE ABOVE REASON AFFECT US?
Well, we get the water supply from all these water bodies, if water is supplied untreated all these chemical waste can get into the living organims, affecting our health adversly.
Moreover some water goes deep into the soil, damaging the ground water which were fresh before.
Plants and trees near the river bank or lake, take up these harmful toxic chemicals and die. And if herbivorous graze on these plants they get affected too.
