The current flowing in domestic wiring at a particular time depend on the power ratings of the appliances being used.If too many electrical appliances of high power rating like heater, A.C etc are used  at same time, they draw an extremely large current from the circuit. This is known as Overloading .
Over loading can occur if too many appliances are connected to single socket.
Prevention From Overloading:
A fuse is a safety device having a short length of a thin, tin coated copper wire having low melting point, which melts and breaks the circuit if the current exceeds a safe value.
A fuse wire is always connected in series in the electric circuits.
Nowadays Instead of Fuse MCB's are also used.

BY the fuse of a device called fuse. When a fuse is installed and overloading of electricity occurs, the circuit breaks itself and fuse absorbs the extra load. If there will be no fuse in a circuit, it could heat up, melt and short the conductors, which could possibly create a fire.
