The Indian Ocean is named India because
a) India has the longest coastline in the region adding to its clout, no other country in the Indian ocean indeed has that long a coastline.

b) India holds a central location which is at the head of the Indian Ocean.

c) India also serves as an important transit point for sea routes connecting the two regions that is countries of Europe with countries of East Asia.

I hope this serves your query.
