Soil type is one of the factors that determine the ploughing levels of land. cotton soil does not require deep ploughing. On the other hand loam soil could require deep ploughing since it does not hold as much water as cotton soil. The type of crop to be planted in the land also dictates the level of ploughing. tubers for instance need deep ploughing in order to loosen soil and facilitate their expansion contrary to a crop like maize that does not need deeep ploughing
