How did balban restore the prestige of the crown?
Balban knew that the weak successors of Iltutmish were unable to restore the prestige of the Taj and no effective government could be formed without restoring the prestige of the Taj.
For this he adopted the policy of complete autocracy. According to him only complete autocracy can get the people obeyed. So he started following the principle of becoming an autocratic ruler.
- He kept his distance from the people and he did not meet the common people.
- He organized the court of the Iranian model and began to adopt the Persian culture.
- He also grew a long beard on his face. He wore a huge crown on his head. He kept his expression serious.
- He kept his bodyguards men with cruel and strict faces who stood at all times holding swords.
- In this way he created an atmosphere full of fear around him.
- He even stopped joking with the courtiers and officials.
- Thus began to display his power and pretentious seriousness.
- With his activities, he created fear in the hearts of the people.
- In this way he adopted the path of restoration of the prestige of the king by adopting autocratic rule.
