I didn’t know how motivated I
was to become a doctor. It was
only after talking to patients I
realised I was happy with what I
am doing.
While taking history or during
examinations I would try to talk
to patients with comforting
words and empathy. It made me
happy. And what amazed me
was how much these people
respected me and responded to
all my stupid questions and
sometimes repeated
examinations with a smile and
never complained. Because they
felt that I could help them in
someway. I could maybe take
away that suffering and pain.
Bringing smile to someone’s
face.
Helping someone in need.
Someone in pain. It is the best
feeling in the world. Nothing
can make you more happy.
Not just right treatment but
reassurance and relieving
someone’s anxiety make you a
good doctor.
Studying medicine is a pain in
the neck. And constantly you
get the feeling that maybe you
made a mistake. You don't get
enough sleep. You have to study
all the time. If you are not
studying then you think about
it all the time. So many exams
and viva.
During my internship one of
the first thing to do in the
morning when I reached the
ward was taking blood pressure
of patients in my unit. I greeted
everyone, asked everyone how
they were doing. Starting my
morning like this makes me feel
so good about being a doctor.
Constantly you are being
reminded that you don't know
enough. That you will fail as a
doctor. Don't ever let this bring
you down.
Be sincere. You will always love
what you are doing no matter
how hard it is.
