Thomas Marvel is an eccentric bachelor, red-faced, fat, local tramp, slow and always seeks comfort · Finds a pair of boots in the ditch, tries them on and when they don’t fit, sits pondering upon the situation · Suddenly hears a voice and a conversation about the boots goes on till Marvel finally turns to see who is speaking with him. He of course sees no one. · He wonders if he has had too much to drink. The invisible man throws things at him to convince him that everything was real and he was looking for an assistant. · He wants Marvel to arrange his food, water and shelter without betraying him.
