The Panchayat came to set up on a uniform basis all over the country after the 73rd constitutional amendment. It was first adopted in districts of Rajasthan.
Explanation:
- The thought process of the panchayats raj system was much earlier than it actually came into being. Gandhiji was amongst a few who first advocated for the system. However, it was partially accepted by our constitution-makers.
- In order to facilitate local development, the central government launched community development programs which concept was far away from the idea of self-government which led to its failure.
- By 1957 suggestion was made for improvement when this system was further outlined by specific duties and responsibilities. Rajasthan was the one to adopt the system initially followed by the states of Andhra and Tamil Nadu.
- But with the 73rd constitutional amendment, this system was officially recognised that let to its set up on a uniform basis all over the Nation.
