The French Revolution was a time when the poor fought for liberty and equality. It involved the whole population of France and impacted all. It affected the people involved due to the abolishment of slavery and absolutism. This gave the peasants of France equal rights and freedom. Before the revolution, the peasants had little to no power within the government and were oppressed by the rich; this event helped put an end to this and significantly changed their lives.

However, this revolution came with a price. Execution, emigration, violent deaths – these were some of the fates people, both peasant and nobles, met during the revolution. This event led to much bloodshed. Many nobles were exiled and the revolution resulted in the death of about 40,000 people. These deaths are therefore one of the main effects of the French Revolution.

Although, this event took the lives of several, the French Revolution was an important event in international history. The French Revolution was all about the equality between people, regardless of their status. In the past, royalty had more rights than most of the people in Europe. The French revolution was a major part of this change in history. The concept of human rights, now a principal accepted across the globe, was hugely influenced by the Declaration of Rights of Man and of Citizens and is what allows us our freedom.

Also, the Revolution introduced the metric system, now used globally and in latter stages it was responsible for abolishing feudalism and slavery. Furthermore, the French Revolution had influenced the development on politics, philosophy, art and literature and had been hugely influential in the making of democratic countries. Its nationalistic ideals and principle of self-determination also inspired others such as the Russian Revolution and Wars of independence in South America
