Srilanka had adopted a series of majoritarian measures after it had become an independent nation

Explanation:

After "independence" in  the year 1948 the "democratically" elected "Sri Lankan Govt" had adopted a set  of "Majoritarianism" measures, so as to establish "Sinhala supremacy" by passing an "Act" in the year "1956". The measures were like;

(i) "Sinhala" was recognised as the "only official language" in Sri Lanka. Tamil language, however,  was not given its due importance.

(ii) The "Sri Lankan Govt".  formulated a  "preferential policy" wherein only "Sinhala applicants/candidates" were "preferred  & considered" for jobs  in the "govt & universities".

(iii) The new "Sri Lankan constitution" had  declared that "Buddhism" would be "promoted & fostered" by the state.

Therefore all these govt measures that came "gradually" one after the other led to a feeling of alienation amongst "Sri Lankan Tamils"
