Coal vary from each other due to difference in amount of carbon present in them.
1. Anthracite has more than 80% coal, and burns nicely, leaving little smoke and ash.
2. Bituminous has 60-78% carbon content.
3. Lignite has more than 50% carbon content.
4. Peat has less than 45% carbon content.
More the carbon content, more the Value of the coal.
