Population is a problem that India has to learn to live with - even though the recent census has shown a decrease in population growth, we are and will be a heavily populated country.
When it comes to primary education - the biggest challenge is to make good quality education accessible to everyone. The recent RTE act mandating private schools to reserve 25% of their enrollment for the economically weaker sections - if implemented correctly (big IF) - would be a step in the right path.
Higher Education - normally tends to follow the industry. A sudden surge of IT related jobs in India has lead to an explosion of engineering colleges with most students preferring an IT or computer science discipline. The biggest challenge here is for academia to catch up with the growing pace of the industry - otherwise the quality of education and hence the quality of the workforce would be substandard.
And Corruption - is obviously the biggest issue India has and there is no simple solution to it. The only hope I have is that this issue would be abated as the post-liberalization generations start coming into power.
Hope it will help you ☺️
