The non metals are available in the nature in the free state or in combined forms. Hydrogen, nitrogen, sulphur, carbon, oxygen etc.

Nitrogen and oxygen are present in the free state in the atmosphere while hydrogen and oxygen are present in the combined states such as water or other compounds.
