A plant's tendrils can form from its branches, shoots, or leaves. ... Tendrils grow out of the plant and wrap around fences or any stable structure near the plant. They enable the plant to grow by itself even when it is subjected to strong winds and negligence.

Auxin is plant hormone which is synthesized at the tip of the shoot. It helps the cell grow longer. When atendril comes in contact with a support, auxin stimulates fastergrowth of the cells on the opposite side that's why the tendril forms a coil around the support.

a tendril is a specialized stem, leaves or petiole with a threadlike shape that is used by climbing plants for support, attachment and cellular invasion by parasitic plants, generally by twining around suitable hosts found by touch. They do not have a lamina or blade, but they can photosynthesize.
