because the feathers cover the chest and stomach from winter by this they not becomes sick and able to live in cold

The body of the birds generate heat .
This heat vanishes in atmosphere.

The feathers of birds gather this heat and resists it from going away.

The feathers are nonconductive so the process is resisted.
