The three friends were sitting in the meadow comfortably to have food. Harris had the beefsteak pie between his knees and was carving it while George and the narrator were waiting with their plates ready.

Harris asked for a spoon.George and the narrator turned to get a spoon out of hamper and when they returned they saw both Harris and the pie missing. George and the narrator make ridiculous assumptions like Harris must have snatched up to heaven,there might have been an earthquake.

While they were mourning his disappearance, they were terrified to see Harris's head sticking bolt upright among the tall grass.Harris had been sitting on the verge of a deep ditch. The long grass had hidden it. In leaning back he had fallen into it. His face was red with anger and he accused his two friends of doing it in purpose.
