Dear student,

Please find below the solution to the asked query

City water workers make river water safe for drinking by treating it and converting it into potable water. It is done by employing water treatment plants. Water treatment plant is a system that purifies or treats surface water and ground water and produces clean, potable (drinking) water for public consumption. Water can be treated differently depending upon the quality of water.

The principles behind this process is :

1. Characterisation of wastes.

2. Treatment of waste

3. Disposal of waste.

In the first step the waste is identified . If the waste contains plastic , bottles , containers, rags, physical removal can be done , else in case of grit and sand , the chemical process of removal is used.

In the treatment process a bar screen is used to remove large sized waste products and then after sand and grit removal the water is sent to a clarification tank , wherein aeration of the water is done. After this process , the chlorine tablets are added to water to make it germ free. After this process of disinfection, water is now ready to be sent through various discharge tubes to the required outlets.

The waste which was obtain must be disposed. In case of decomposable substances present, they are dumped into a pit and allowed to decompose on their own. The substances which do not decompose on their own like plastic and metal are thus sent to specific decomposition processes.
