Sum of n term - (sum of n term -1) = an
= Sn-(Sn-1) = an or l.
Hope it helps.

sum of nth term = n(2a +(n-1)d)/2 (i)
nth term = a + (n-1)d
an - a = (n-1)d ………………………………………(ii)
using eq. (ii) in (i) gives
Sn = n(2a +an -a)/2
Sn = n(a +an)/2
