How do we test the presence of hydrogen gas ? metals and non metals?

You can test for hydrogen gas by putting a burning splinter near the gas. The splinter will gives out a 'pop' sound (mini explosion) if it is hydrogen gas. Please refer to this website, Tests for gases on how to test for hydrogen, oxygen, and carbon dioxide gas.
