Displacement of an object is shortest Distance between initial and final position. It is independent of path followed.
E.g. If a particle travells 3m north and then 4m east then the displacement of particle is Hypotenuse of right angled triangle formed i.e sqrt(3^2 + 4^2) = 5 m
