How do you predict the valency of an electron, if its subshell electronic configuration is given?

eg:1s(2) 2s(2) 2p(6) 3s(2). ELEMENT NOT REAL
1s(2) 2s(2) 2p(6) 3s(2) 3p(5). ELEMENT NOT REAL

Answer:

first count total no of electon eg in above your given ques is 12 then divide it in 2,8,8 sequence so in this case u get 2,8,2 so for completing total 8 electon in outermost shell u need 6 electon which need high amount of energy so better way to make element in this case is to remove 2 electron.so the amount of electon gained aur removed is count as valency.in this case valency is +2 becoz u removed electron not gained to make element stable.

second eg has 17 electon dived in 2,8,8,18 sequence u get 2,8,7 so u gain 1 electon to make element stable.its valency is -1.

try many ques u get it...
