How do you solve the system -2x + 2y= -5 and x + y= -5?

Solution:

-2x+2y = -5 ----(1)

x+y=-5 -----(2)

multiply (2) by 2 , we get

=> 2x+2y = -10 ---(3)

Add equations (1)&(3) , we get

4y = -15

=> y = -15/4

Put y = -15/4 in equation (2),we get

x-15/4 = -5

=> x = -5 + 15/4

=> x = (-20+15)/4

=> x = -5/4

Therefore,

x = -5/4 and y = -15/4
