A lava plateau is a wide, flat surfaceformed when a large amount of highly fluid lava flows over an area. This thin and runny lava can disperse over large areas, and as the lava cools and solidifies, it forms the large, flat plateaus of rock.

Formation From Under the Earth's Surface. Many plateaus form as magma deep inside the Earth pushes toward the surface but fails to break through the crust. Instead, the magma lifts up the large, flat, impenetrable rock above it.volcanic come in all shapes andsizes. ... For example, if we take a look inside a volcano, we notice it sits on top of a magma chamber, which is anarea below the earth's surface where magma gathers and builds in pressure. The magma chamber leads to avolcanic pipe, which is also called avolcanic conduit.
