how does coal formation take place in nature

Before millions of years ago due to many natural disasters like earthquakes,volcanoes and many natural disasters the earth get unbalanced means the upside part of earth went down and down side parts came up as in it animals and plants get buried inside earth.
There was lot of pressure and high temperature inside the earth the plants and animals started changing into coals.
Through this as it taken million of years according to passage of time the quality of coal increases.That's why the quality of coal is different.
Also by this process petroleum is formed as where it was oceanic or waterly area this is the reason that petroleum is present under water.
