As I mentioned in this week's discussion forum assignment, critical thinkingincludes not only finding weak spots in any idea but also finding the value of something andstating what is good, what is bad, considering all pieces of evidence and knowledge beforejudging and making any decisions. So, critical thinking is a skill that we are practicing whileassessing our peers. First, we read the work and check it according to criteria, such as "are thereanswers to all questions?" or "is this clearly stated/defined" etc. We also check what referencesour peer used, if he or she understood questions correctly and gave the right answers. After this,we can evaluate this work and point to what we like about it. It is essential to do so because theonly negative feedback can demotivate another student. To be honest, I believe that we can findsomething interesting and good at any, even the worst, work. Showing that we carefully read thetopic and the assignment and sharing both - strong and weak points of it - is a part of the criticalthinking process. Finally, the result of the assessment is a formed opinion that is based on ourcritical thinking skills and work analysis. I think that the strategies I learned and that are applicable to the peer assessment are theLadder of Feedback and Framework for decision making. They are quite similar and includerecognizing the value of the work, sharing suggestions, and reviewing alternative ideas. As aresult, we get an explanation of why we assessed a work one way or another and ideas about howto make this work even better next time.
