when the air rushing in hits your voice box your vocal cords close suddenly and your left with a big hiccup some things that irritate the diaphragm is eating too quickly or too much an irritation occurs in the throat or stomach or feeling of excited cold water helps in cooling the irritation that has occurred in the diaphragm quickly gulping down the cold water relaxes the momentum caused by contractions in the diaphragm

Answer:

Hiccups often come after eating or drinking too much or too quickly.

The stomach, which is directly below the diaphragm, becomes

distended. This irritates the diaphragm and causes it to contract, as it does when we breathe in.

• Hold your breath and swallow three times.

• Breathe into a paper bag.

• Drink a glass of water quickly.

• Swallow a teaspoon of sugar.

• Pull on your tongue.

• Gargle with water.
