The safest and most obvious place to be in a thunderstorms is indoors. If lightning strike a house or a building directly,it will tend to follow the available paths to ground, including the electrical wiring, pumbling, cable or telephone lines antennas and\or steel framework.

Hi friend,

Suppose a negative charged cloud is passing over the high rise building this cloud induces positive charge on the top of the building and negative charges on the top of the building and negative charges at its lease due to electric induction. As the positive charges attract the negative charges the free electrons from the cloud start pushing their way to moist air. This will make a conducting path when lightning will strike.

Hope it helps..................
