Muscle movements takes place in the body of a living organism as a result of the contraction and extension of the muscle proteins(actin and myosin). These proteins are found in the muscle cells and are responsible for the movement of muscles. The sliding filament theory explains the working of muscles ,Acc to this theory,The actin filaments slide over the myosin filaments,as a result of which the length of the sarcomere shortens resulting in the shortening of the muscle cells-then muscle fibres-then muscle bundles and finally the muscle as a whole contracts.
