Networking in itself don't improve file management at all. That said, If you have a file that needs to be available for others than yourself, or if you need to be able to access it from other devices (be it computers, phones etc), putting it on a network share would mean that you have access to one and the saame file aat all times and don’t have to work with local copies that needs to be merged at one Point.
Similarily, in an Enterprise Environment it’s quite common to have all the users Document folders synced to a file server in order to provide backups and also to make it easier to swap out old Equipment. Say that you need a new computer at work, you get it and log in to your account, in that scenario it would then sync all your documents back so you can continue your work without having the hassle of taking backups and restoring etc etc.
