Bassanio tells shylock that antonio will be the guarantee for the 3000 ducets.Shylock gets the chance to take revenge from antonio when bassanio says that. thats why shylock tells antonio to sign a bond which says that,if he fails to give the money than a pound of flesh will be taken from his body. Shylock says that its just a merry bond. In this way shylock describes his demand for a pound of flesh.
