Fertilization means:
1. The act or process of initiating biological reproduction by insemination or pollination.

2. The union of male and female gametes to form a zygote.

3. The act or process of applying a fertilizer

The process by which a female reproductive cell becomes capable of developing into a complete organism by unionwith a male reproductive cell. In many animals, such as mammals, fertilization occurs inside the body of the female. Infish, eggs are fertilized in the water. In plants, eggs are fertilized inside the parent plant. See Note at pollination.

The process of making soil more productive of plant growth, as by the addition of organic material or fertilizer.

Fertilization in humans occurs when a male sperm meets with a female egg to form a fertilized egg. This fertilized egg is called an embryo or a zygote. The fertilization takes place at the end of the fallopian tube. During the ovulation period, a female egg is released, and then the egg is pushed inside the fallopian tube with the help of follicles. There are two fallopian tubes but fertilization takes place in one of them.
