The poet glorifies his poem by saying that it is eternal. The theme of the poem is the immortality of his poem . The poet says that his friend will be remembered forever because he has been mentioned in the poem. He highlights the nature of time , the time isn't loyal towards even kings as even kings are forgotten with the passage of time but the poem and the works of literature will live for a thousand years.

Shakespear says that all monuments which stand as the memorials of some one are destroyed due to time, war, etc. But poetry cannot be destroyed by time or war and hence is immortal . thus,. the poet glorifies poetry.
