The Mother has XX chromosome, as she is a female, she will donate a X chromosome always. But the father has unmatched pair, One normal X and the other short Y, which is XY, as he is a male. If he donates X chromosome,when the mother donates X, it will be XX (Girl Child), but if he donates Y chromosome while the mother donates X, it will be XY (Boy Child). So, it is the father who decides the sex of the offspring ( Child).
