The following points may help you-
1. The HYV seeds need plenty of water and also chemical fertilizers.
2. Higher production is possible only from a combination of HYV seeds, irrigation, chemical fertilizers, pesticides,etc.
3. In many areas like Punjab it is associated with loss of ferility due to increased use of chemical fertilizers.
4. Also continuous use of groundwater for tubewell irrigation has reduced the water table below the ground.
5.Overuse of chemical fertilizers has also polluted the groundwater, rivers and lakes.
