How I motivated my friends to save water

I have lots of friends, some are from my school and some are from the same locality where I live. Water scarcity is prevalent across the world due to pollution, increase in population and wastage. So, one day I decided to talk about water conservation to my friends. At first I was not sure where to start or how they would react. But after saying a few things about water shortage and the probable effects in the coming years, they became more attentive and curious. I told them that people take water resource for granted. They use it as if it cannot be exhausted. They all agreed that we must change our attitude towards water.

I explained to them that half of the world’s largest cities are facing water scarcity. Water scarcity is the shortage of freshwater to satisfy water demand. Population growth, industrialization, rapid urbanisation, rising needs of irrigation and increase in domestic water usage have accelerated the demand for water. Pollution of rivers and lakes will create extreme water scarcity in all major cities. Survival without water is impossible, so water conservation and the prevention of water wastage is vital for life on Earth.

After this I told my friends about water conservation. This means utilising water efficiently to reduce wastage. Now they have understood why saving water is vital for our present as well as for our future. The response from my friends was so encouraging. We all agreed to save water and reduce scarcity of water. We discussed about ways to save water. Our list of conserving water are:

  1. prevention of dripping of water from taps,
  2. quick repair of leakage from water pipes,
  3. turning off taps when not in use while brushing teeth,
  4. harvesting rain water by involving our parents,
  5. proper use of irrigation systems,
  6. not playing with water hose,
  7. not wasting water by taking long bath,
  8. reusing water after washing dishes, fruits and vegetables for watering garden plants and flowers,
  9. planting more trees so that rainwater will be retained as underground water.

71% of the surface of the Earth is water. Out of this only 3% is drinkable freshwater. The rest are saline ocean and sea water. We now have less than 3% potable water due to pollution. We must save this small percentage of freshwater.

Our group of friends dedicated to save water is growing in numbers. Our next big plan is to carry out cleanliness drive on lakes and rivers. We will spread the awareness on the danger of polluting water and the importance of saving water. This is a movement to save life by saving water. We are happy with our water conservation movement. This is better than fighting with your friends and neighbours for a small bucket of water which was predicted by environmentalists.

Answer:

How I motivated my friend to save water.

I am standing with my friend at my balcony. It's raining outside but at our head we are under a shelter we are observing rain . Then I asked my friend 'what happen if there is no water for a day? 'He had many ideas for this question. He answered me ' then we have no water to drink, we have no water for brushing, bathing, making food... ' So the main moto of my friend is to say that we can't survive if we have no water for a day.

But this is the problem and by the time we will completely lose our all fresh water. So my friend asked me 'Why to worry?' it's not our problem then I simply replied him by few facts. The human body is composed of about 70 percent of water So we want water to drink.Only 3% of the water on Earth comes from freshwater biomes. There are over 700 different species of fish that live in a freshwater biome.99% of all freshwater is either in the form of ice or located in an aquifer. So we know we have Scarcity of fresh water and if we don't conserve water then our future generations as well as all flora and may suffer in upcoming days. Then he ask me if I want to conserve water then What are the ways to save water. I replied him it's not big deal friend. We can start this from our home just saving water at the time of brushing, use showers at the place of bucket water, the water that is used to clean vegetables and fruits must be reused in gardening, we can complain our teachers about leak taps in schools and I also told him in arid regions where people have no adequate supply of water use rain water harvesting methods to conserve water and use rain water in day to day activities. After this long conversation he is now well awared about the problem that may cause due to wastage of water. He is now motivated and ready to save water. And we again started to watch rain.
