but graphite on the other hand has flat layers of carbon atoms held by weak van der Waal's
forces which makes graphite a weak object and easily breakable.

Both diamond and graphite are formed by carbon atoms, the difference lies in the manner in which the carbon atoms are bonded with one another. in diamond, each carbon atom is bonded to for other carbon atoms forming a rigid the dimensional structure. in graphite, each carbon atom is bonded to the other carbon atoms in the same plane giving a hexagonal array.
