How is nitroethane prepared from Ethane ?

The conversion of ethane into nitroethane can be done by first converting ethane into iodoethane which is done by treating ethane with iodine in the presence of iodic acid(HIO3).

C2H6+ I2→ C2H5I+ HI

The obtained iodoethane is then treated with silvernitrite to get nitroethane.

C2H5I+ AgNO2→ C2H5NO2+ AgI.
