after the fusion of the egg and the sperms, if the gamete fuses with the X of the mother and the Y of the father then the baby will be a boy... if both are X then the child is a girl child

the male contains XY chromosomes and the female contains XX chromosomes.if x from the male and x from the female comes together then the offspring will be female.if theY chromosome comes in contact with x chromosome of the female.then it gives rise to a male.
hence,it is scientifically correct to say that the sex of a baby is determined by the father and not by the mother.
