Social change can be distinguished from other kinds of change as follow

When a change is categorized, it is often defined by the area or thing that is being changed.

As the name suggests social change is the something that alters the social parameters and does not fall under any other category of change. But this criteria is not enough for a change to be called as “social change”.

These changes must be massive enough to alter things fundamentally. Hence, this makes it a very broad term which further needs classification.

This classification can be based either on the nature of change or the driving source.

Moreover it takes a long time for social changes to develop in a society  but its impacts are long lasting.
