Alluvial soil of Ganga plain is formed due to the deposit of alluvium brought from Himalayan region.These are light in colour. Alluvial soil of Godavari valley is formed due to deposit of alluvium brought from Deccan trap region which is volcanic in origin .These are dark in colour.
